I know that at various times in the past I've mentioned the musical Wicked, and particularly the main character, Elphaba.
Well, for those of you who aren't familiar with this musical, let me summarize what it is about. Wicked tells the story of how the infamous Wicked Witch of the West became who she was during the events of the Wizard of Oz. As it turns out, she wasn't always wicked. Rather, she was a misunderstood outcast who always dreamed of helping others and being loved. With the help of her college friend Galinda, she works her way towards becoming the Wizard's grand vizier. However, Elphaba finds that not all is what it seems in Oz, and if she does not expose the Wizard for the wicked man that he is, he may cause the destruction of all that she loves.
The song Defying Gravity takes place just after she had discovered the Wizard's treachery, and her friend Galinda is none too happy about the way she reacted. Now they are fugitives being pursued through the Emerald City. It is here that Elphaba discovers her ability to fly, and embarks on her quest to bring the Wizard and all of his tyranny down.
The following video is a fan-made storyboard of what this scene would look like if it was a film. It's pretty epic! (and I don't use that word lightly)
