Recent Sketches (Manga)

*  *  *

Over the past two days, I've been busy sketching away.  :)  I've been teaching myself how to draw manga.  These are some of my first successful attempts.  (I apologize; I could not flip them around, so all of them are sideways.  It's the way that I scanned them.  Just... tilt your head a little, and it should look right.  >_> )

 I hope you enjoy them!

My first male manga character.  I don't have a name for him... I just drew a face that came to mind.  I was very pleased by the results.  ^_^
I did this one in a classic manga style... I think it might be shoujo?  I'm not sure.  It's either shoujo or shounen.  If you know better, please let me know!

This is a portrait of one of my own characters.  The Wizard Dracone, the most talented wizard of his age.
I tried this one in a slightly more *realistic* manga stile- making the facial features more proportionate.  I also tried to portray some of Dracone's character through his facial expression.

And this is Starlighter, my original fanfiction character for The Guardians Series.  This is the scene from Goodbye, My Friend, the one-shot I posted a while back.

That's all I have for now.  Hopefully, I'll be able to upload more of my artwork in the future.  Let me know how you liked them in the comments below!  :)

  1. Shading's my artwork enemy. And I tend to draw in very light pencil. I've never tried manga art, though. Looks cool. I should try it.

    My favourite's the first one.

    1. There are all sorts of great tutorials for shading on Youtube, if you'd like to learn. :) One good place to start is to take a lamp and a bunch of tuperware, boxes, or blocks, and arrange them in different ways. Then you can draw what you see, and learn how to accurately draw shading on the page. That's how I learned. :)

Thanks! I like that one too. Although I'm not sure which I like best.

  2. I've been trying to get better at drawing for, let's see.... 8 years? :P

Recently I've been drawing a lot, using YouTube videos as my instructor. :P Though, not fantasy characters. Superhero characters. And so far, I haven't been able to draw varied poses. :P

Anyway, I'm considering attempting to draw Manga style sometime, because the facial features are easier to master. Simply because they have larger heads, which means you can go into more detail.

Anyway. *Ducktapes mouth so he'll stop rambling.*

    1. Oh, ramble away! I don't mind. :D

Ooh, I should learn how to do superhero characters. That would really come in handy, since I'm writing a superhero story right now.
The manga style characters are somewhat easier to draw than realistic humans, which I also love doing. There are still some tricks to it, but once you get an eye for it it gets really easy.

    2. Haha! :D

Really? I'm preparing to write a superhero story too.
Yeah, that makes sense. I just drew my first manga style face now, and while it was intended to look like a little boy laughing, it makes a fine mid 40's man chuckling. :D

    3. Aw. At least it turned out well as an older man!

By the way, nice profile pic. Thor is cool. :)

  5. *gasps* Wow! Those pictures are amazing! I wish I could draw even a quarter as well as you can.
I think my favorite one is the third. :)
