Drawings and Scetches

*  *  *

Hello, my readers!  I'm back from yet another one of my long inexcusable absences.  :)
Today I couldn't think of anything interesting to write (wait, did I say that out loud?), so I'm uploading some of my latest artwork to show you!  It's been  a while, so we were due for an art post anyway.

Hope you enjoy the show!

First up, we have concept art for a future fairy tale book  (not the one that's coming out soon).  This particular fairy tale will be called "Three Crows in Castlewood".  More than that, I cannot say at this time.

And here we have a piece I've actually uploaded before:  a sketch dump of Draco Malfoy's son, Scorpius Malfoy.  This a better version, as the first time I uploaded it, it was just a photo.  Now, though, with the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I thought it would be fun to revisit this piece.  Looking back on my fanfiction for him all those months ago, I was acutally correct about several elements of his character and family:  including, notably, that his mother Astoria was a sickly woman who struggled to keep her strength up.  :)

This one is a project that just sort of happened one night when I was really bored.  A departure from my usual style, I tried incorporating elements of cubism.

This one is concept art for a character of mine from a book called "Spellbreaker", which explores the idea of an unwanted stepsister with a knack for spotting loopholes in classical fairy tale spells.

This one is one of my few successful facial studies drawn without a reference.  Completed just last night after about an hour and a half of work, this is my latest piece.  :)

Now the last three drawings are all concept art for a new story I've got in the works currently titled "By Any Other Name".  I'm still in the process of finishing the plot, but even in these very early stages, the characters have really jumped out at me.  I'll talk more about this idea at another time.  :)

Most of these words have been blurred out so as to avoid serious spoilers... ;)

Thanks so much for joining me today!  I hope you enjoyed this artwork.  Let me know what yo think in the comments!

  1. Ooh I LOVE that last one! They're all really great but that last one is the cherry on top of the cake :D

    1. Thanks! I think that last one may be my favorite too. It's the only successful kissing picture I've completed so far.

    2. You're welcome! I have had a hard time with kissing pictures (you don't want to know how many Tuor/Idril fails I have sketched) because the arm curve and the angles of the heads is so confusing to me. By the way, I really love how there is lots of movement in your drawing: the cloaks blowing and especially how I can tell how the people moved. And the guy's hair is the perfect length--not too short, not too long. I am terrible at drawing male hair XD
This drawing makes me want to go back and try to sketch again!
Sorry for my babbling, haha. Ah it's so pretty!!

    3. Head angle is what does it for me. So difficult, especially with no experience whatsoever. >_>
Thanks! Cloak movement is one of my favorite things to draw. And that length of hair is my favorite hair style for a guy. ^_^
Well, what are you waiting for? Go get that sketch pad and draw up a storm! :D

  3. Lovely art, all of it! Also, I'm fascinated by what you said about your Spellbreaker story . . . is it an idea that you're going to write, or something you've already written, or something you're currently writing? If you've written it already, is there any way I can read it?

    1. Thank you!
Spellbreaker is one of the novels I'm currently writing. I'm up to Chapter Five, I believe. I'll have a post in the future where I go more in depth with the description. I'm super excited for it though, because Scatha, my main character, is probably one of my most flawed and three-dimensional characters I've ever created. :D

    2. You're welcome.
Ah, got it. I look forward to hearing more about it. :) If you ever happen to be in need of a beta reader . . . :D

  4. I like the one with the cubism. Well done on the shading!
Everyone is talking about the last picture, it seems, and I must agree that it is eye catching! I love the lines in the background, how they move with the action and grow lighter around the characters.
